Green Card Lottery: Registration Continues

The yearly registration period for the Green Card Lottery enters its second day today. Potential applicants are urged to apply soon before the registration period ends on November 3, or 31 days from today.

Green Cards are documents granted to permanent residents of the United States so that they can live and work freely in the United States. This program is an excellent option for those who do not have any relatives or prepared job in America, although, if a potential applicant has either of these it will not affect their application process.

Dissimilar to the other green card application programs, there are only two requirements that must be met in order to enter the Green Card Lottery. First, they must be from an eligible country for the Diversity Visa program. The second requirement is that they meet a minimal amount of education. This requirement is generally met by either a high school diploma or two years of experience in a job that required two years of training.

The purpose of these requirements is twofold. The first is to guarantee a certain amount of diversity in the immigration numbers to the United States. Larger countries are clearly going to be sending larger numbers of people to America and if they take up all of the other visas folks from smaller countries won’t get the chance to immigrate. The purpose of the other requirement is to make sure that when these immigrants arrive in the United States they do not become immediately destitute, but rather are able to fend for themselves and begin their journey toward the American dream properly.
