Halloween is a fun time of year for kids and adults in the United States where the creepy and ghoulish are a source of great entertainment. The tradition of Halloween is very old, although older celebrations are completely different from modern ones. The tradition was brought into the United States by European immigrants in the 1800s and over the years it has gained its own, unique American flavor.

You might begin to see creepy decorations in neighbors’ yards or pumpkins carved to look like frightening faces in preparation of this fall holiday. On Halloween night children in the neighborhood go trick-or-treating. This is when children go from house to house, knock on the door or ring the doorbell in costumes. The costumes are sometimes of horror characters, movie characters or other kinds of costumes. Some are quite elaborate!

When the owner of the home answers the door the kids shout trick-or-treat and the owner traditionally gives them candy. In the past if the owner did not, the kids would prank the house in some way, but people don’t do that anymore really.

There are also Halloween parties for adults which are really just costume parties, but they are still fun. With a green card from the Green Card Lottery you can live, work, study or go to fun Halloween parties in the United States indefinitely!
