Things to do After Winning the DV Lottery 2013

The Diversity Visa lottery program conducted by the US State Department selects 50,000 applicants for permanent resident status in the United States, through a computer generated random lottery drawing.

All the selected applicants and winners will not become lawful permanent residents of the United States. Winners who meet all the eligibility requirements and who are admissible into the United States only will be qualified for an immigrant visa to enter the United States.

As the lottery results have been published, you can check whether you are a winner through the entrant status check on the E-DV website. In order to check your status, you must have the confirmation number that you obtained while filing an application for the DV lottery program. You can also not check your status without your name, last name and your date of birth.

The DV lottery 2013, Entrant Status Check for Diversity Visa lottery Program will be available until the 30th of September 2013.

People who had won and those who had not been selected will not receive any notification from the US Department of State. The only means to check whether you were selected is through the entrant status check. Once you enter your confirmation number, name, surname and date of birth in the result page, you will be directed to a confirmation page, if you were selected. This confirmation page will have information about the fees and other procedures. People who had not won will not be directed to the confirmation page.

All the the instructions about the immigrant visa interview appointment, date and time of the interview will all be available only on the E-DV website via entrant status check.

The instruction on the entrant status check will have detailed information about the Diversity Visa and immigrant visa fees. You will not be required to pay any fees through mail or any other services, as the fees must be paid only in person at the US Embassy or Consulate. The payment of fees can be made at the time of the visa application. On making the payment, you will receive a government receipt for payment from the consular cashier.

If you are already in the United States on some other status and if you had won the DV lottery, then you may apply for adjustment of status, for which you will receive separate instructions about mailing the Diversity Visa fees to a US bank. This information will also be available only through the entrant status check.

You must be aware that the US Department of State does not send any mail or e-mail with any information about winning the lottery.

If you are a winner, you will receive e-mails with information about your visa appointment if you had responded to the notification instructions on entrant status check. Those e-mails will not contain information about the interview dates and time.

The follow-up e-mails from the US Department of State will only request you to review your entrant status check for any new information regarding your application. Only through the entrant status check you can get to know the date and time of your interview.

You can prepare for the immigrant visa interview on checking the e-mails and reviewing the entrant status check. Everything about your interview and the required documentation will be available in the entrant status check. You will be required to pay a visa fee of $330. Separate fees must be paid for all the eligible dependents.

If the winners of the DV lottery 2013 are found to meet the eligibility requirements, they will be provided with an immigrant visa. They can enter the United States with the immigrant visa which is valid for 6 months. Before the expiry of the visa they can enter the United States and apply for a Green Card in the United States.
