Green Card Lottery 2015 Registration this Week

The Green Card Lottery, a perennially popular immigration program for the United States, begins on Tuesday October 1, 2013 at noon.

Applicants will have about one month (until November 3, 2013) to register for the Green Card Lottery 2015. Late applications are never accepted and all registrations must take place online.

Requirements for Entry

One of the advantages of the Green Card Lottery is its accessibility. There are only two basic requirements for entry into the lottery. The first of which is an education requirement. Then applicants must also be from an accepted country of origin.

Registrants should have at least a high school education or two years of experience in a profession that took two years to train for. The profession must be pre-approved by the Department of Labor.

Residents of the following countries may not claim their home country on their registration application: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, the United Kingdom and Vietnam.

Although Northern Ireland is part of the UK and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are all claimed by China, these regions are still accepted by the Green Card Lottery.

The Best Way to Register

Registrants for the Green Card Lottery should be very careful when applying online because they only have one chance to register correctly.

The U.S. State Department will disqualify any attempts to register twice and registrants are not allowed to complete the application in multiple sessions.

Although the application form is not very long, it is important to have all the necessary information at hand when applying. Important documents are diplomas, birth certificates, marriage certificates and passports.

An important part of registering is submitting the appropriate photographs online. The principal applicant needs to include digital photographs of themselves, their spouses (if any) and all of their living, unmarried children under the age of 21.

What to Do After You Register

After completing the online registration, applicants will be given a confirmation number. Applicants should keep this number safe because without it, they will not be able to check their status.

The winners of the Green Card Lottery will be selected and announced on May 1, 2013. Applicants can see if they have won or not on that day with their confirmation number on the State Department’s website.

Winners of the Green Card Lottery are then sent information about how to apply for their immigration visas.

Green Card Lottery 2016?

The 2015 Green Card Lottery may prove to be the very last year for the Green Card Lottery as U.S. congress-people have been discussing doing away with the program in favor of greater border security.

People looking to sign up for the Green Card Lottery should do so as soon as the lottery opens on October 1.
