Green Card Lottery Closes in Three Days

At noon on November 3 of 2012, the Green Card Lottery will end its registration period for the DV-2014. This means that these last few days are your last chance to sign up for the easiest and most accessible path to permanent residency, if you don’t sign up in the next three days you will have to wait until next year to apply again.

The Green Card Lottery is particularly easy because of its few requirements for entry. Only two requirements must be met: an educational minimum and an eligible country of chargeability. If these requirements are met and the paperwork is filled out properly you will be entered into the Green Card Lottery.

The drawing, which will occur in May of 2013, will select 100,000 lucky winners from the pool of applicants. The next step in the process is for the winner to apply for the green card through the USCIS (the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services is administered by the Department of Homeland Security). This is often when applicants have difficulty because they do not apply properly or have some other issue with their application that prevents them from being approved. Sometimes a second drawing occurs in the fall of the year following the registration period to fill up the remaining 50,000 green cards allotted to the program.
