Green Card Lottery 2013: Over 6,000 Iranians Win

The U.S. Department of State has announced that 6,029 Iranians have won the 2013 Green Card Lottery. Iran had the highest number of winners in Asia, followed closely by Nepal with 4,370 winners.

Rising prices, food shortages, and a conflict with Israel have plagued Iran and its people over the last few years. It’s no wonder why 370,000 Iranians applied for the DV-2013 Program last October.

In many ways, Iran is still recovering from their conflict with Iraq in the ’80s in which they had to defend themselves from Saddam Hussein. Thousands of civilians died and cities were destroyed. After the war ended, oil sanctions were imposed on the country.

The hardships experienced  by the Iranian people are still felt throughout the nation. It is often the case that the political and economic conditions of a country halt the progress of innocent individuals who are just looking to be contributing members of society.

The Iranian Green Card Lottery winners will now have a chance to pursue a better life in the United States. The DV program will grant each of them a permanent resident card, which will give them legal status and provide a path toward U.S. citizenship.

The visas provided for the DV program are chosen at random, and every year, 50,000 are allocated for this program alone. They are available only to foreign nationals from countries that have not had more than 50,000 U.S. admissions through family-sponsored or employment-based visas.

The registration period for the Green Card Lottery 2014 begins October 2, 2012 at noon and ends November 3, 2012 at noon. Check your eligibility today.
